Sherri Going Home Tomorrow, yesss!

Whew! It’s been one long and hard week but the doctor has given Sherri the green light to go home tomorrow long as she stays feeling well with no fever. Thank the Lord! Her immune counts went from 40 to 440 which is a huge jump and something we were super excited about since they want at least 500 for you to go home. The normal ANC count should run anywhere from 1.6 – 6.8 but once they start recovering, they move quickly according to the doctors. Next Steps Once she goes home her main objective will be to fully recover. After two weeks she’ll go into the hospital for one more bone marrow biopsy and blood work. She’ll then need to take ATRA for 9 more months (2 weeks every 3 months) where then she’ll be 100% done! The next time she...

Update on Sherri 5/31

Just wanted to give everyone following Sherri and quick update on her condition and where we are. We brought Sherri to the hospital because she had a slight tempature and the doctor recommened we have it checked out. They ran sevearl tests on her to check for fle, colds, annomia, etc which all came back negative. However, they ran a blood cluture to check for any infections in her blood and they did find a mild infection that they are treating now. The doctors say this is something they see a good bit for those in her type of situation. When your immune is depleted, all the bacteria you had in your body that was being fought comes at you – so they are hitting her with some pretty potent antibiotics. Sherri’s fever did break for a few hours last night...

4 days down, 2 to go!

So far we are 4 days into Sherri’s last round of treatment. She finished her last round of Danorubicin which was a 15 minute push each night for the first three nights. She still however has four more doses of Cytarabine chemotherpy to go. She has been taking all the chemos very well with some sickness, especially last night, but overall is doing very well! Today Sherri had a ultrasound to determine if the blood clot on her PICC was gone or not and they did determine that it was gone. Thank the Lord. However, she will still need to take a 150MG blood thiner shot each day until she leaves on Sunday. She has those shots!! Right now we are just thanking the Lord that the Cytarabine shortage did not affect Sherri and even though it pushed the schedule back a...

Please pray, last chemotherapy starts today

Yesterday we meet with Doctor Slack and he gave the green light for Sherri to begin her last round of chemotherapy treatments today. This will be the most aggressive type of treatments thus far but he expects that she can go home on Sunday, if everything is looking good. Obviously Sherri is not looking forward to being admitted into the hospital and is a little scared simply because shes not sure how sick she will get, however, she is defiantly ready to get this all behind her and I’m with her on that! If you would, keep her in your prayers this week. Once this round of chemo is completed and Sherri’s blood counts have recovered, she will undergo one more bone marrow biopsy to ensure everything is looking good. Once that is completed she will...

Last Chemotherapy Treatment Scheduled

We just got word that Sherri’s treatment will be back “in stock” in the next couple weeks and have scheduled her to be admitted into the hospital on May 17th. She’ll have to be there for about a week but may get out a little sooner if her counts recover faster than expected. Although she is not looking forward to it, we both are ready to get it behind us! What’s Next? Once this last round of chemotherapy is completed, she’ll go in for hopefully her last bone marrow biopsy and then finish the three remaining rounds of ATRA pills over the course of 1 year. We are “Thanking God” for all that he has done! Please continue to pray for those who did not get this treatment in time in...

Still waiting on treatment to arrive…

A few weeks ago we learned that the US ran out of Sherri’s treatment for APL and we are still waiting. This will be her last round of IV chemotherapy and to be honest with you, we’ll really wanting to get it over with and behind us!   She did however finish her first set of “chemo pills” called ATRA on Sunday! She took them for two weeks and will do that every three months for the next year – even though they have mild side-effects, they gave her massive headache and skin dryness but something she plowed right through. She’s my trooper God has truly been good to us! I could nearly write a book on how God has showed himself faithful through this entire journey of almost 8 months.   Time and time again He somehow...

United States runs out of Sherri’s treatment

Sherri and I went to the Doctor last Thursday for the normal check-up and to get our marching orders for the following week – she was supposed to go into the hospital for her last treatment. The DR told us that the US had ran out of the drug they wanted to treat her with which is 1 out of 2 drugs they use to treat Leukemia patients – so needless to say, we will NOT be going into the hospital this week. What this means for Sherri The doctor said that since she is already in remission that not having the treatment ‘ever’ wouldn’t be a really big deal as her chances of being 100% cured is still high but that’d they would be even be higher with the treatment. He has instructed her to take ATRA (chemo pill for APL) for the next...
